Game write up:

Always a close game when we take on the Devils, this match was probably one of the most exciting one in years.  Devils scored 2 in the first after Chris Wilmott took revenge on pitcher Jason Derr by lining a ball off his knee.  Cannons were able to tie it back up in the top of the 3rd with Gilberto Martinez getting on and scoring on passed ball. New comer Dan Brown tied it up by getting on by an error and the scoring on Roger Baugh hit.

Derr and Devil pitcher Hsinyen Lai traded zeros back and forth till the Devils added 4 in the bottom of the forth to take a 6 to 2 lead to start the top of the 5th.  Not to be deterred, the Cannons mounted a rally scoring 5 run to take the lead. Martinez was the catalyse to get things started with Ruari Dunn added a single, with Brown and Baugh getting on by errors. Then Gabriel Rincones singled in his first at bat entering the game and Derr knocking in 2 with a single of his own making it 7-6.

Gilberto conintued his hot streak by adding a double to right and coming around to score in the top of the 6th making it 8 to 6.  Cannons were able to keep the Devils off the board by some water tight defense and keeping the them off the board in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings.  Old timer Mark Donaldson made his comeback a success by singling in his first at bat in years and keep with his aggressive style of play by stealing second on the first pitch before coming around to score on Dan Brown’s double. And then Dan scoring on Roger Baugh’s base hit.

Cannons took at 10-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth with the Devils heart of the order coming up.  The Devils were determined to make their comeback. Chris Wilmott was able to get on with a single and then Hsinyen made Derr work on the mound before hitting a outside fastball opposite field for a 2 run homer making the score 10 to 9.  Derr was able to shake off the home run and settle down and get the final three out leaving the tying run on second base.

Great game by both teams.  We played great team defense and consistantly put the ball in play making them get us out. We never gave up and never lost our cool. We travel through to Glasgow next week to take on the Galaxy.
