Game write up:

An absolutely gorgeous day in Glasgow saw the visiting Edinburgh Giants take on the home team Glasgow Comets in what was another close match up between these two teams. Despite the final score, both teams traded runs until the home team was able to break through in the final inning.

Giants sending dependable lefty Kyle Huffey to the mound to duel it out with Santino De Rosa of the Comets. Despite hitting Giants slugger Adam Murphy, De Rosa was able to make quick work of the Giants in the top of the first. Bottom of the first saw the lead off man Geo Coulter reach first base on what would be one of three walks on the day for Coulter. The newly promoted player-manager John Nelson started the scoring off with a line drive 2 Run Home Run to left centre field giving him his 4th long ball of the season. De Rosa retired the Giants in order in the top of the second with the assistance of the clear fielding play of the game as second baseman Mike Greenwood nabbed a hard hit line drive up the middle to rob what surely looked to be a solid base hit. Huffey struggled with control in the bottom of the second issuing walks to Florian Bock, Coulter and De Rosa. In a strategic move, Giants opted to intentionally walk Nelson with the bases loaded on two outs, conceding the run, to face Greenwood. The strategy paying off as the Giants were able to get Greenwood to ground out to first to end the inning.

Top of the third saw the visiting Giants bats come to life as they were able to put the ball in play off De Rosa. Giants Brown was able to single in two runs, Giants pushing across a third run on a fielder's choice as well. Game being tied at 3. Huffey wheeling and dealing in the bottom of the third as he settled down to retire the Comets in order. Top of the 4th saw De Rosa walking the lead off batter; however, the wee man was able to settle down quickly to get then next two batters. Taking a page out of the Giants playbook, Comets opted to intentionally walk the big man Murphy with two outs, paying off for the Comets as De Rosa was able to get the next batter out. Bottom of the 4th saw Saaed Dickie taking a ball off the back to reach first, and ultimately make it to second on a wild pitch. De Rosa helping his cause out by singling Dickie in breaking the tie at 4-3 to the Comets. Giants again opting to intentionally walk Nelson, paid off once again as they were able to get Greenwood to ground out to first to end the inning.

Comets flashing the leather in the top of the 5th to double up Giants manager Paul Convoy after he reached second on a horrible, atrocious throwing error by Comets third baseman. Bottom of the 5th saw the Comets open up the scoring a bit as walks to Louis Maguire, Bock lead to Robert Grucela singling in his first RBI of the day. De Rosa helping his cause out again as he knocked a hard hit single scoring two RBI. However, De Rosa ended the inning with a poor base running decision.

A relatively quiet 6th inning for both squads as no runs were plated; however, made way for a belter of a 7th inning. Giants power hitter Murphy smashed a single to left to open up things for the Giants, leading to a three run inning capped off by a 2 run line drive by the big man Necer. However, it wouldn't be enough as the Comets finally got to Huffey in the bottom of the 7th after battling all day. Robert Grucela cracked a line drive ground rule double to right field to get things going, to be singled in by Jaako Miettinen. Methuselah Coulter kept things going with a single, scoring Miettinen. Giants opting to pitch to Nelson, as he made them pay with his second 2 Run Home Run of the day getting under one sending it deep over the left centre field fence giving him his 5th on the season. Greenwood kept things going with a base on balls, followed by a Chuan Kao rope to left field, followed by a base knock single for Maguire, followed by a walk to returning Comet Brian McIntosh taking the score to 14-6. Giants making a pitching change swapped Huffey for Murphy; however, Grucela was able to single in his second RBI of the day. The game ending with a hard hit ball back up the middle by Miettinen, which saw Murphy make a great play and a great throw to home. However, Maguire was able to beat the throw in a very close play to end the game at 16-6.

Great effort by both teams. Comets MVP of the day goes to Santino De Rosa on a stellar pitching performance and a great day at the plate. Honourable mentions to Coulter, Grucela and Miettinen for great performances on the day as well.
