Game write up:

Glorious sunshine belted across Glasgow's east end to welcome the clash of the city rivals for the first time in 2017. Story of the day was the 1-hitter thrown by Galaxy pitcher Luke Powell as the Galaxy kept themselves near the top of the table with a win by way of the 7 inning mercy rule.

Comets playing as the home team started positively with Santino DeRosa on the mound stranding 2 Galaxy runners after Luke Powell reached on a walk and Jim Sehar on an error. Comets could not offer anything in the bottom of the 1st with Powell responding on the mound with 2 strikeouts and a groundout. The 2nd inning continued in the same vein as Galaxy stranded runners before the Comets did the same after Greenwood and Maguire had reached on walks. The 3rd inning was when the visitors took hold of the game. Sehar singled to score Powell before Luis Harvey drove in Jim Sehar and Stott doubled to commence the scoring. John Tafe player-manager for Galaxy also singled to score Stott. A 5 run rally to put Galaxy in the lead.

Comets would continue to offer no answer as Powell continued to mow down the side time after time. DeRosa also shored things up as the Comets would keep it tight. The sides traded 0's in the 4th and 5th before Galaxy would again blow the game open in the top of the 6th. Evaldas Grinys led off with a triple before Jiří Šimek drove him in to make it 6-0. Galaxy were able to take advantage of momentary lapses in the Comets defence as Šimek, Rodriguez and Sehar also scored to bring the Comets to a 9-0 deficit after 6 innings of play.

DeRosa made way for Xander Harrison on the mound for Comets in the 7th. The Comets defence looked hot behind him when they turned a would-be beautiful 6-4-3 double play, or so it seemed when umpire had decided that Sehar was safe by a matter of inches at 1st base. The hard-hit ground ball by Sehar was fielded on the bare hand by shortstop Coulter who flipped to 2nd Baseman Harry Prince who turned and fired to Greenwood at 1st base. But the safe call was made. Unfortunately no opportunity to call New York to appeal the play. Sehar then stole a base and was driven in by Miguel Mantecon. Meaning Comets were staring at a 10-0 deficit and needing 1 run to avoid losing by way of mercy.

There was also the matter of a no-hitter still alive for Luke Powell. This was ended when Xander Harrison jumped on the first pitch to send a hard hit ball up the middle to break the hitless run for Comets. Greenwood reached via a walk but Maguire hit into a fielder's choice before Robert Grucela was struck out and Florian Bock grounded out to the pitcher to end the game. Galaxy advancing to 4-1 on the season while the Comets drop to 2-2.

Shout out to both teams again for representing the club so well. Comets invite the League leading Edinburgh Cannons to Tollcross next week before Galaxy shut down for a week. Both teams made use of the good weather to finish 2 more innings of scrimmage as prep for the upcoming Belfast tournament. Also massive thanks to Stevie and Carol Loudon for coming down to take in some of the game. Always a pleasure!
