Game write up:

Glasgow Galaxy travelled through to Edinburgh for the first time this year to take on the Cannons. With the Cannons leading the league by half a game over the Galaxy it would be a clash of the two top teams so far in the 2017 Scottish League season.

Galaxy ace, Luke Powell took the mound squaring off against Cannons’ Roger Baugh.

Galaxy got off to a quick start, with Miguel Mantecón hitting a lead off single. A walk and two fielders choices would bring two runs in for Galaxy in the top of the first.

Edinburgh answered with a run in the bottom of the first with a leadoff hit by Ren Quantrill, two stolen bases and an overthrow to third that brought the run around. Galaxy added another run when Mike Sweeney got hit by pitch and was brought around all the way from first on a long single by John Tafe. A head-first slide that got under the throw added the third run for the Galaxy.

Edinburgh added a run in the bottom of the seventh when player-manager Jason Derr hit a towering solo home run to left.

The game stayed tight at 3-2 until the 8th, when Galaxy pulled away with a four-run rally started by a single by veteran Luis Harvey, followed by hits from “Elvis” Grinys, Scott Shannon, Chris Young, Mantecón and Powell

Galaxy would take a 7-2 lead into the ninth inning. Powell completed the game with a hard-earned strikeout, making it eight Ks in total for the day.

It was a hard-fought win for the Galaxy against a solid Cannons team. Both teams played a clean game with few errors and some stellar pitching. Galaxy have a friendly against Durham next week in Glasgow, as do the Cannons.
